Raising a puppy is hard work and requires a conscientious effort to ensure a well-mannered and socialised dog. Puppies can, and should commence training between 8 and 12 weeks of age - the sooner the better! Your puppy can attend class after receiving the first vaccination.
Socialisation
The optimum period to socialise puppies is from birth to 12 weeks of age. Your puppy's experiences and interactions during this time provide the foundation for future behaviour. Paw Behaviour puppy school gives your puppy the opportunity to learn to socialise "appropriately". Well managed "free play" for puppies, encourages shy puppies to become confident around other dogs and people and prevents bossy puppies from becoming bullies.
Teach your puppy:
- To come to its name
- Not to bite hard - people and other dogs
- How to greet family and visitors politely by sitting
- To sit, lie down and stay on cue
- "Leave it", "give" and "drop it"
- To accept handling and grooming
- Tricks that are fun and useful behaviours
- Walk on lead without pulling
You will learn:
- Modern reward based training methods
- How to toilet train you puppy
- How to teach your puppy bite inhibition
- How to prevent and solve simple behavioural problems - jumping, barking, digging etc
Training and Equipment:
- Soft or leather collars/leads should be used - no chain collars or chain leads
- All training is based on positive reinforcement and rewards
- Please bring dog treats, toys and a mat for your puppy to sit on to class
