In an emergency, you want to make sure your pet has the highest level of care available. At Moorabbin Veterinary Hospital, we have state-of-the-art equipment and a dedicated team of experienced veterinarians and nurses, ensuring your pet always has the highest quality emergency care.

Opening Hours

We are open every day of the year (except for Christmas Day and Good Friday) for every emergency.

Weekdays: 8am – 7pm
Weekends: 9am – 5pm
Public Holidays: 9am – 2pm

What is an emergency?

Moorabbin Veterinary Hospital treats a wide range of different emergencies, including:

Poisonings – chocolate, rodenticides (mouse and rat bait), garden pest control products (snail bait), prescription, household cleaners and over the counter or illegal drugs
Increased breathing rate
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Any types of trauma
Car accident
Pain
Bleeding
Fight injuries
Wounds
Sudden appearance of swelling
Loss of balance or consciousness
Seizures or fits
Difficulty urinating
Loss of appetite
Lethargy
Anaphylaxis/allergic reaction
Swollen belly (bloat)

Whelping (birthing difficulties)

Gastrointestinal obstruction (bones, foreign bodies)

The best care available

Our top priority is to make sure your pet is well looked after at all times. If your pet needs to stay the night, we actively maintain pain relief and patient warmth to keep them as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Moorabbin Veterinary Hospital has top-of-the-range equipment and processes for a wide range of emergency care:

Digital x-rays and ultrasound scanning
Blood and urine analysis
Intravenous fluid pumps
Surgical operations
Oxygen therapy
Medication from our fully-stocked pharmacy.

We also encourage coming in to visit your pet, in the same way that you would visit a sick friend or relative. This can help cheer you both up and can make them feel calmer and generally more relaxed.

Being prepared

We understand that, in the case of an emergency, you can start to feel quite flustered.

Bookings are not required, but please try and call before coming in. This allows the Moorabbin Veterinary Hospital team to be completely prepared and ready to act as soon as you arrive. Additionally, this can allow us to assess the situation and provide the best guidance on how to proceed.
